Mondays, I hate Mondays, especially with the full moon and the vernal equinox coming soon. I have never seen Admin staff and the police run through the front door as often as today. I think it was a record three times, and all during my hour shift at the checkout desk.
First it was Fashion Man, who is said to desire to enter some type of fashion school aboard, so he requires a computer with internet access whether or not it is his turn. The only problem was he forgets what the librarians told him the day before, so that they have to reinstruct him to use the computer. This behavior happens every day, plus he is constantly talking to himself at the computer, which of course annoys the other customers. Today, he was in the lobby bathroom, screaming and shouting profanities. When a manager knocked on the bathroom door and asked if everything was okay and could he please open the door, his reply was more profanities. So the police came. Finally Fashion Man came out of the bathroom yelling that he was doing number two, that we were jealous because he could do number two and we couldn't. Okay...
Next was the massage lady, who brought a massage table into the park, giving massages to the undesirable elements in the park. Again the manager came out to talk to the lady, informing her that she needs to pack away her table. Of course, she doesn't comply, so the police were called. Basically, they told her the same thing: To pack up and go away. She eventually did.
Lastly, one of my co-worker spotted a man in our lobby with a huge knife. This made her uncomfortable, so I told her to inform Admin, mainly because I didn't think if that knife was legal. You can carry a knife unconcealed in California but only a certain length. Apparently, later in the day the owner of the knife made a rude comment to the Admin Secretary, which allowed her to call the police and have him kicked out for the rest of the day. We also found out that the knife was barely legal.
The nice and quiet library is a myth.
